SYNOPSIS
One third of Cambodia’s population perished under the Khmer rouge, and the children of the survivors have inherited a legacy of trauma. Although born in Quebec, Thida Meas Chau feels the burden of suffering her parents left behind after coming to Canada to flee the regime and its horrors. Thirty years later, as a UN-appointed Special Court attempts to shed light on one of humanity’s worse nightmares, Thida heads back to Cambodia to face the demons that still haunt her family, and to find out more about the death of her brother Sammono, tragically drowned in suspicious circumstances.
