SYNOPSIS
JE SUIS LÀ – Les proches aidants en santé mentale looks at mental health from the point of view of informal and family caregivers who have taken on the difficult task of supporting loved ones or friends struggling with mental illness.
Just like an earthquake, the seismic waves of mental illness ripple far beyond the epicentre of the afflicted person, causing major and continued upheavals in the daily lives of families and friends.
Over six one-hour episodes, JE SUIS LÀ bears witness to both the helplessness and the hope experienced by caregivers and people suffering from mental illnesses, as well as the resilience needed to navigate the complexities of the strained legal and health systems.
Driven by empathy and a strong desire to understand, journalists Monic Néron and Paul Arcand seek to give an accurate overview of the situation from a variety of perspectives. While the series gives a voice to caregivers, it also explores how far anyone should go to help. What resources are available, and do they really make a difference? What are the actual challenges for caregivers? And when is it time to let go? Or even, to sever all ties?
